Church body wants court monitored probe into religious desecrations

church social organ the Council for Social Justice and Peace on Monday demanded that a Special Investigation Team under the supervision of the High Court or the Supreme Court be appointed to investigate into the desecrations of religious symbols.



It refused to pay credence to the evidence of the police saying that they had not conducted proper forensics investigation into the crime.  

The police had arrested Francis Pereira from Curchorem for the desecrations of crosses, niches and ghumtis.After the arrest, the CSJP had conducted a fact-finding mission on the issue. According to the

According to the CSJP the findings say that the desecrations were part of a greater design.

The report says that it is too much of a coincidence that Francis was said to be mentally unsound and the person who committed the desecrations after Francis was interned too was mentally unsound.

The police claim that prima facie he had committed the desecrations on his own.

They said that the 50 plus Francis had shown them how he had committed the desecrations and informed them about some desecrations that they were not even aware of.

The fact-finding team members also warned about the possibilities of social unrest if these type of issues are not stamped out at the roots
