After opposition parties, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has also now opposed further expansion of coal handling facility at Mormugao Port

Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has demanded with his party government to form a high power committee consisting of citizens and experts to monitor the  handling of coal.

He has also advocated  strong action against any increase of pollution.

Carlos addressed media on Tuesday and said that Goa state pollution control board has confirmed coal Pollution in Vasco.

He said hence the MPT should drop the idea of expansion of coal handling at the Port.

He also stated that the MPT and Goa Shipyard limited should stop privatization and contract system at the port as goans are facing hardship due to lack of jobs.

Meanwhile, the Goenchea Raponkaracho Ekvott general secretary and Goa Against Coal member  Olencio Simoes has  threatened  to file a petition in court and come on the street if the people are not taken into confidence about expansion of coal handling facility.

The agitated people against coal pollution have criticised the Chicalim  panchayat and goa state pollution board for not providing the proper environmental impact assessment report in different languages.
