Kidney transplant: first in GMC then in private hospitals

The government will not give permission to any private hospitals to conduct Kidney transplants till the Goa Medial college does the first one.

The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday also said that pharmacies will lose their licenses if found selling date rape drug Ketamine as a lot of it is finding its way on the coastal belt.

The health minister told media that the committee mandated to finalise the kidney transplants would be reconstituted and GMC would be upgraded to ensure that kidney transplants happen at the hospital itself.

On the Ketamine issue, Viswajit was quite categorical stating its use was there on the coastal belt and he was going to constitute a committee to check on the issue besides directing the FDA to take a more proactive stand on the issue.

The Health Minister said that the canteen facilities are to be outsources and the laundry facilities have already been outsourced in a bid to improve quality and give better quality facilities to the patients.

The super specialty hospital project would also be expedited, the health minister said and reiterated that there was no going back on charging non goans for using GMC facilities.
