Govt to rehabilitate Mopa Dhangars with alternate land

The cabinet on Wednesday cleared the rehabilitation of the 14 Dhangar families affected by the Mopa international airport.

The government has also decided to open the infrastructure development scheme, but only for the special schools.

The original scheme for schools gave a grant from 50 lakhs to two crore rupees.

The rehabilitated families will get 800 sq mts and a house constructed for them by the airport concessionaire.

The ownership of the rest of the land would remain with the government but the rehabilitated families would allow to use the land for grazing.

The chief minister said that the new general rehabilitation policy would be finalized by November.

The cabinet on Wednesday resolved to extend the infrastructure improvement schemes for schools catering to special students.

The chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that this is only applicable for special schools and not for general schools.

He said that it was not a new scheme but the same scheme was rolled out and closed for general schools earlier.

The government is also proposing to redress the requirement of special children.

It will take the feedback of all stakeholders and NGOs to fine tune the scheme, the chief minister said at the press conference after the cabinet briefing.
