15 land -loser family members from Mopa given job letters

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that Dabolim airport was saturated and there can be no increase in the number of flights landing there.



He told reporters that if Dabolim airport was closed, the new airport at Mopa would also be saturated.

 The chief minister was speaking at a function at which each member from the 15 Dhangar families who have been shifted from their land to make way for a greenfield airport at Mopa was handed over employment letters on Friday.

They will start work on the first of January. When Goa Government signed a Concession agreement with GMR, it was agreed that one person from the 15 dhangar families will be given a job at the airport.

The displaced Mopa families are being rehabilitated in Kasarvanem village. Each family will get 800 square metre plot, with 100 square meter house  and 50 square meter goat or cowshed.

A  crematorium and a community hall for 150 persons will also be built. The oustees will have grazing rights on about 20,000 square meter land. The government will provide water supply, electricity and approach road.
