Ponda Municipal Council wants to make its market complex functional before Ganesh Chaturthi.

At its meeting held on Saturday, the municipality decided to auction the shops at its four-storey market complex. They will be auctioned  to vendors in three categories.

The market complex has around 150 shops.

The market complex located at Upper Bazaar has remained unutilised for the past five years as some vendors were reluctant to shift there citing inconvenience  as the reason.

Chairperson Radhika Nayak said all vendors would be given last opportunity to shift to the complex.

The shops will be auctioned to vendors in three categories. In the first category,   16 vendors from Indira Market would be shifted.

In the second category, 43 cloth  vendors would be moved there.

The remaining shops will  be auctioned to unemployed youths
