Merchants in Mapusa market have opposed the Municipality's move3 to accommodate more and more non-Goan vendors in front of their shops.

They say the area in front of shops was reserved for parking of two- wheelers and it should remain so.

Mapusa Merchant Association president  Ashish Shirodkar said the area in front of their shops was notified as a parking place for two-wheelers but now the civic body has suddenly changed its decision.

The merchants have threatened to block the vendors if they are allowed to sit in front of their shops.

They said the municipality will be responsible if any law and order problem arises.
