15 Feb 2017 08:17 PM

Liquor traders as well as restaurant and bar ownershave decided to jointly file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the ban on sale of liquor within 500 metres of state and national highways

They have also suggested some remedial measures to the Assembly and the government that would be elected soon.

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. traders have come up with all sorts of ideas to beat the ban.

Gaurish Dhond of the All Goa restaurant owners association said that the bars had come before the highways.

Hence the highways could be denotified. Michael Carrasco of the Bar Owners Association has propounded  a new excise policy to be placed before the court and seek relief  .

Goa’s economy depends on tourism and liquor is quite an important part of the revenue generation of the state.
