Goa government has decided to challenge the high court decision on panchayat elections before the Supreme Court on Friday.

In view of this, Goa State Election Commission has decided to hold up its earlier plan to abide by the high court order and extend the nomination deadline. Officially, the nomination deadline ended on Thursday.

The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday had stayed reservations and delimitations of total 14 wards in 9 panchayats. 10 wards in 7 panchayats among it were related to the ward reservations for the OBC and scheduled tribe.

It included wards of Sancoale, Merces, Betki-Khandola, Curti-Khandepar, Curca-Bambolim, Advalpal, Penha da Franca, Anjuna and Betalbatim. Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho said that Government was thinking of approaching Supreme Court over the issue.

The State Election Commission had earlier decided to abide by the high court order and extend the date of nominations till Sunday. But it has been now deferred till Friday.

Meanwhile, on the last day of nominations, the Commission has received 7500 nominations of 6500 candidates.
