Fishermen up in arms over closure of Betim retail stalls

Fishermen belonging to the Mandovi Fisheries Marketing Cooperative Society at Betim are upset over the fisheries department order to close down the area where they used to sell fish in retail.

They have threatened to come out on the streets if the department did not take back the order.

The department has sent the society three letters, the last one dated 20th of June this year asking it not to auction out the area that was being used to sell fish in retail.

It said that if necessary the department would auction those areas themselves. The earlier letters had directed the society not to sell fish in that particular area.
