FIR against opposition leader: Cong cries foul, BJP says following procedure

The Anti-Corruption Branch filed a FIR against Leader of Opposition Babu Kavlekar for disproportionate assets of 4 crores.



Saturday morning saw ACB sleuths swoop down on three of Babu’s properties. The FIR also names his wife Savitri.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the ACB was following procedure and asked whether the congress was disputing the facts

Though his party cried foul, Babu said that he had cooperated with the authorities and would continue to do so in future, refusing to call the FIR and subsequent raids politically motivated. ACB chief, SP Bosco George told reporters about the simultaneous raids that took place on Saturday morning.

The ACB has registered a FIR on Friday evening after receiving a go ahead from the government. Bosco said that they have assessed the disproportionate assets at 59% of Babu Kavalekar’s known source.

These assets were not declared by Babu while he filed his nominations. The ACB had investigated the same and filed a report.

The opposition Congress party strongly defended its MLA calling these raids a political vendetta.

AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar & MLA Alex Reginald claimed that this were tactics of the ruling alliance to intimidate and browbeat opposition MLAs.
