The long-delayed advanced weather forecasting system would finally be launched next week.

Installation of this Made in China radar was delayed by a couple of years due to objection from the armed forces.

This doppler radar can detect weather changes from as far as 500 kilometres.

Director of Meteorological department in goa Mohan Sahu has said that the armed forces have now given their NOC for the installation of the Doppler radar.

He also said that the final date would be fixed after consultations with his higher ups.

The IMD director has also informed that even as the monsoon has hit Kerala, its onset is expected to slow down due to the presence of a cyclonic system in the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone is headed towards Bangladesh.
